News Vernon Parish start date for school postponed Updated: 10 hours ago The Vernon Parish School Board decided to push the start date back two weeks. The Honorary Membership Program, of which civilians are members of, funds this project as well as other law enforcement initiatives throughout the state. Education is so important and we should encourage our children and grandchildren to obtain some sort of higher education as it has shown to be beneficial in later success, even in law enforcement, said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. The LSA Scholarship Program demonstrates our (Sheriffs) commitment to that goal for the students of Louisiana. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said: This scholarship program is a meaningful expression of the programs respect for education. There are no restrictions on the purposes for which the scholarship may be spent. The scholarship will be awarded as a gift to the recipient to defray the rising costs of tuition and related expenses in higher education. The only stipulations are as follows: the applicants are permanent residents of Louisiana the scholarship be utilized in higher education within the state of Louisiana. The student must be enrolled as full time, undergraduate student. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the school indicated on the application. Completed applications must be submitted to Sheriff Hiltons office by close of business (4:30 p.m.) on Thursday, April 9, 2020. The scholarship recipient will be announced on Friday, May 1, 2020.
